Corn Starch

Product Code : 15      Brand Name :Anilo Starch

Product Specification
Corn Starch

Anilostarch is an unmodified cereal starch commonly used in textiles and for other industrial applications.

Advantages: Anilostarch provides:

  • Uniform and stable viscosity.
  • Strong and tough films.
  • Excellent adhesive properties.

Description:
Anilostarch is a naturally occuring polymer comprising anhy droglucose units linked together. Each of the unit contains atleast one primary hydroxyl and two secondary hydroxyl groups. Thus, the polymers is characterised by an abundance of hydroxyl groups which impart hydrophilic or water loving properties to Anilostarch.

When an aqueous slurry of Anilostarch is heated, the granules take up water and swell considerably in size to produce a thick viscous paste. Further boiling of paste causes breakdown of starch granules and forms a homogeneous paste.

The paste on drying produces a tough adhesive film.
Anilostarch is insoluble in cold water, alcohol, ether and most organic solvents, and is stable for indefinite period of time if kept dry.

Typical Aanlysis:

  • Colour, Form: White to light cream powder
  • Moisture: Not more than 14%
  • Ash on ds: Not more than 0.25%
  • Cold water solubles: Not more than 0.4%
  • Free acidity as ml of 0.1N NaOH per 10g sample: Not more than 4
  • Petroleum  ether extractable on ds: Not more than 0.15%
  • Viscosity of 3% w/w paste in seconds in Redwood No.1
  • Viscometer at 750C: Not less than 40
  • Screen analysis: 100% passing through 85 mesh BS

Applications: Applications of Anilostarch are varied in nature.

Textile Industry:

The principal use of Anilostarch in the textile industry is for sizing yarns warp sizing preparatory to the weaving operations, and finishing the cloth after the yarn is woven.
The function of Anilostarch in warp sizing is primarily to protect the yarn so that it may be woven with less damage. Anilostarch increases the weaving efficiency of the warp by reducing the number of  warp breaks. It also gives uniform pick up and prevents droppings Anilostarch is used in finishing to change the stiffness or hand of the fabrics, to modify the appearance by filling the interstices of the weave, and to add weight. Anilostarch can be used in conjunction with thermoplastic or thermosetting resins to obtain a stiffened finish. When used in this manner, it provides a permanent change in the fabric properties. Anilostarch can also be used to finish materials such as buckram, shade cloth or book bindings that are not washed.

Paper Industry:
Anilostarch can be added to the wet-end of the paper manufacturing process, which is generally referred to as beater sizing. It increases the paper strength, reduces surface fuzz, increases stiffness and rattle of the paper. Anilostarch is also used for size press application. Here it improves appearance and erasability of paper, inhibits ink penetration and forms a hard, firm surface for writing or printing. Anilostarch can be used as an adhesive in pigmented coating for paper and paper board.

Adhesive Industry:
Anilostarch pastes are capable of forming film and of binding particles together. This film is highly associated and comparatively insoluble. The associative binding between starch molecules within the film is one of the most important property of Anilostarch which is critical for adhesive applications. The principal outlet for Anilostarch in the adhesive industry is the manufacture of corrugated board. Anilostarch is used as a non carrier starch for in situ gelatinisation when the board assembly is heated on the machine.

Anilostarch is also used in detergent cakes as a filler and binder in antibiotics manufacture as ingredient of culture media. It is also used as a settling agent in ore refining of iron and bauxite.

Anil also manufactures Anilostarch A edible starch for food and confectionery industries and Anilostarch A1 and SP for talcum powder base and tableting.

Preparation:
For preparing paste, Anilostarch is slurried in cold water till free of lumps at desired solids. The slurry is cooked either by direct steam injection or in jacketed cooker, alongwith agitation to 95
oC for about 20 minutes. When using a continuous jet cooker, the starch slurry is heated to 100oC  to 105oC.

Availability: Anilostarch is available in 50 kg. plastic lined HDPE woven bags.
