DEXTRINS
Dextrins are starch converted products which find applications in textiles, adhesives, dyes, foundries and other industries.

Description:
Dextrins are partially hydrolysed starches that are prepared by heating or dry roasting in the presence of a catalyst. This dextrinization reduces the larger starch molecules into smaller dextrin components. The dextrinization process is controlled to result in several different grades of white and yellow dextrins.
Common to all these grades of Dextrins, however is their ready solubility in water, almost wholly or partially. The controlled processing of Dextrins gives them varying physical properties such as decreased tendency of aqueous suspension to form gel and low viscosity of solutions which can form a continuous and uniformly thin film on drying. Dextrin films have greater elasticity and strength than mere starch films with equal thickness.

Applications: Applications of Dextrins in various industries are outlined below:
Textile Industry.
White Dextrins are ideally suitable for textile industry due to their high adhesive property and increased penetration. In textile printing, Dextrins are used as thickners.
Adhesive Industry
Because of their greater adhesive strength and fluidity, Dextrins are widely used in the machine labelling of tins, cartons, packages, envelopes, etc. In book-binding, carton sealing, cigarette pasting, match-head & match box making, and in the manufacture of spiral and convolute tubes, Dextrins are increasingly used.
Dyes Industry
Dextrins in dyestuff industry are used as a diluent to standardise the dyes with respect to the ranges of colours.
Foundry Industry
Yellow Dextrins serve as an excellent binding agent for sand cores in foundry operations. They give high green bond strength necessary for the mould to remain intact during handling. Depending on the properties required by the customers, a specific grade of Dextrins can be offered.
