Description:
Fine white or yellowish powder, odorless and tasteless

Identification tests Microscopic observation:
Polyhedral granules 2  to 23 micro m in size or rounded granule 25 to 32 micro m in diameter. The central hilum consist of a distinct cavity or 2 to 5 rayed cleft. No concentric striations viewed. Between crossed Nicol prism. A distinct black cross is seen intersecting at the  hilum

2.2 : Mucilage observation
A thin and cloudy mucilage is produced
2.3 : Colour with Iodine
A dark blue colour is produced which disappears on heating and reappear on cooling

Moisture:
Not more than 15 %      

Sulphated ash on ds: Not more than 0.6 %

Acidity as ml of 0.1 N NaOH  for  5 g sample: Not more than 2ml

Salmonella and E.coli: Absent
